Many east-coast Australian languages experienced the early onset and full impact of colonisation leaving only a few Elders and descendants that can speak some words in brief sentences. Yet current descendants and linguists from the tribes below have worked on the reclaiming their language from the past.
Some people in more remote parts of Australia do not speak English and only communicate using the language of their tribe.
